James L. Roberts
James L. Roberts is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his undergraduate degree in Sociology from Virginia Union University and his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. He is a graduate of Baltimore County’s Leadership Program.
James has over 20 years of experience in fundraising. He worked for ten years at Coppin State University in the Office of Institutional Advancement. His initial appointment was as the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. He was later appointed Associate Vice President and retired as the Acting Vice President of Institutional Advancement in 2009.
Jim also served as the Chief Development Officer for Associated Black Charities and the Executive Director of Baltimore City Community College Foundation. In addition to his extensive fundraising background, Jim served as the Director Center for Career Development at Morgan State University for 13 years. During his tenure, he made it possible for graduates to obtain positions in Fortune 500 companies and be accepted into top-tier Graduate and Professional Schools. He also served as the Director, Minority Business Development for the Greater Baltimore Committee.
Jim is a Providence Baptist Church member, serving on the Board of Deacons, former Chair of the Scholarship and Grants Committee, Sunday School teacher, member of the Men’s Fellowship, and former Chair of the Providence Adult Day Care Center Board of Directors. He is also the Corresponding Secretary of the Miles Connor Chapter Alumni Association of Virginia Union University.
Jim has also served on a variety of Boards, including the American Diabetes Association, Maryland Affiliate; Patuxent Institution; Volunteers of America; Woodbourne Center; Greater Baltimore YMCA; Threshold, Inc.; Tenth President, Baltimore Marketing Association; WBC Community Development Corporation; and Providence Adult Day Care Center.
Jim married his college sweetheart, Barbara Joyce Carter, in 1966, and they have two children and six grandchildren.
